Our local stone dust has so many fines that it would harden up almost like concrete. Not good for a setting bed. It would become so hard that pavers would shift laterally, especially under vehicular traffic. We had to replace a lot of driveways because of stone dust. Sometime after stone dust, ASTM D2940 gravel became the recommended base material.

Jun 03, 2010 · I like the look of flagstone with sand/stone dust fillers, That being said, I have both. The flags are laid on a concrete bed with cement fillers on the patios, and the walk ways are loose flags with sand filler. 15 years w/o problems, but that is is soCal, were don't even get a frost, let alone a freeze.

Feb 11, 2020 · The smaller sand works better for flagstones that are closer together. The patio we worked with yesterday had gaps anywhere from 1 inch to 6 inches between the stone, so a 1/4 inch gravel really was the best option. This is why I always recommend going with crushed gravel again, it depends on the type of patio and the gaps we have to work with.

Jul 06, 2010 · Compact the aggregate mixture in place with a vibratory plate compactor. Then use a 1" or so layer screenings as a bed for the pavers, again mixing in a small mount of cement. The screenings are like course sand that is made of crushed stone, sometimes called fines. It compacts together a little better than sand.

Nov 06, 2020 · Stone dust (SD) is one such alternative material which can be successfully used in construction and used as partial replacement of natural sand. The influence of the SD on fresh and hardened properties of concrete are examined and presented in this paper. In this study, sand is replaced by stone dust in different percentages ranging from 0 to 60%.

Aug 14, 2016 · using sand as the topper is an invitation for ants to make a new home, stone dust is a better choice ; what's under the gravel affects how long the job lasts as much as drainage. In colder areas clay soil will heave and push the slabs out of true. Leveling the slabs every spring quickly looses appeal.

Studies on the effects of quarry dust on concrete have been conducted all around the world[12, 13]. The impact of partial sand and cement substitution on the compressive strength of concrete was investigated[12, 14]. The effects of substituting sand with quarry dust (20, 30, and 40%) on the properties of fresh and cured concrete were explored[15].

No. Most screenings and stone dust have too many fine particles that slow drainage and rut under repeated loads from tires. Sand made with crushed shells (common in Florida) shouldn't be used either. Concrete sand is recommended. It's the same sand mixed into concrete pavers and poured, cast – in – place concrete.

The gradual substitution of sand with basalt dust leads to the sealing of aggregate composition, which results in lower air content in the concrete mix and thus a lower porosity of hardened concrete. Along with the increased basalt dust content in the sand mass, the increase in concrete mixture density is observed.

Good day to all, I'm new to this forum. I will start installing a 15 x 24 pool this weekenk. I've read the instructions carefully but I'm still unclear on a few points. Maybe some of you could help me. This is a buttress style pool but instead of strap, I will pour concrete sidewalk on each side as per instruction. I will be installing a bottom drain and sloping the pool 6" deeper in the center .

Oct 13, 2012 · Due to this, the pressure on natural resources such as sand and broken stone will be greatly reduced without compromising the strength and cost aspect of the concrete. Hence in the present study, it was decided to replace sand with three different quantities of quarry dust from 20 to 40% with an increment of 10%.
