Winsor Newton showed cadmium yellow at the 1851 Crystal Palace exhibition. Mondrian often used two cadmium colours in his limited palette: cadmium yellow and cadmium red. Cadmium yellow hue is a bit deeper and richer than your average yellow. I went through the same thing myself and used the regular hue instead of light in a couple of paintings and noticed I wasn't getting the same tone as I was seeing in Bob Ross and other videos. Mixing in white didn't get me the same shade either.
